Ella Drai
Ella’s love for Alpine skiing was sparked the moment she stepped onto the slopes of Taos Ski Valley, nestled in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains where the Rockies begin.
At just 8 years old, she progressed within a week from mastering the basics on the magic carpet to skiing on black slopes from the top of the mountain—and once she reached those heights, there was no turning back.
Frequent family ski trips to Colorado deepened her passion for the sport, as she was captivated by the thrill of speed and inspired by the competitive ski teams training on the mountain.
When Ella was 10 years old, her family made the life-changing decision to leave Houston, Texas, and move to Colorado so she and her brother could pursue competitive skiing with Ski & Snowboard Club Vail. While her limited experience initially placed her in the part-time program, her natural talent, work ethic, and mental resilience soon caught the attention of her coaches. They saw in her the qualities of a successful athlete: discipline, passion, determination, and grit.
Eventually, Ella earned her spot on the U14 Alpine Race Team.
From there, Ella’s journey has been one of relentless eAort and growth. She has focused on sharpening her technical skills and building the physical and mental strength needed to excel in all Alpine skiing disciplines: slalom, giant slalom, super-G, and downhill.
Her dedication has led to incredible milestones. In March 2024, she qualified for the U16 U.S. Nationals, competing against the top 14 th 16-year-old skiers in the country at Vail, Colorado. The following month, Ella entered the FIS circuit, proudly representing Mexico on the international stage as her career reached new heights.
With her sights set on the future, Ella remains committed to improving her skills and advancing her rankings. She dreams of representing Mexico at world championships and ultimately achieving her goal of competing at the Winter Olympics.
